D64 Rules and Race Classes

Here are the different race classes we have each month.  For information on how to race and where to send cars CLICK HERE.

(Updated for 2021)

Open Modified

This class is for cars that have been modified for speed. Usually some weight has been added and axles have been polished or changed. If you are new to racing but would like to start modifying cars, check out our speed tips. The winning car each month in this class will be kept here at D64 to be raced in a "Car Of The Year" race at the end of the season.

Official Rules
  • Cars must be 57 grams or under.
  • Cars may be modified for speed, looks, or both.
  • Length: must be 3.75 inches or less
  • Height: must be 2 inches or less
  • Width: must fit on Hot Wheels orange track
  • Dry lubes only
  • 2 cars per entrant
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee.

Modified Street

This is a class for those that really love cars and Hot Wheels. The open modified class is the place to try all your experiments, test the science, push the limits of speed and make really fast cars. This class is more restrictive and focuses on the car itself. These cars must be production cars. Cars you would actually see on the street or at the track. For the most part, cars should keep their original silhouette and original base (exceptions noted below). Racers should try to keep to the spirit of this class. If it has a real manufacturer in the name, you should be good.  If I as host feel that a car has been modified to the extent that it should not race in this class it will be raced in the open modified class. The winning car each month in this class will be kept here at D64 to be raced in a "Car Of The Year" race at the end of the season.

Official Rules

  • Cars must be 57 grams or under.
  •  Cars may be modified for speed, looks, or both.
  •  Must be actual production cars
  • Must have 4 wheels that all touch the ground
  • Original silhouette
  • Exceptions would be cosmetic modifications such as blowers, engines, spoilers, racks on trucks, etc.
  • Original base
  • Weight must be on the inside unless it is a truck (real trucks often carry things in the back) or incorporated into an actual object you might see on a car.
  • Length: must be 3.75 inches or less
  • Height: must be 2 inches or less
  •  Width: must fit on Hot Wheels orange track
  •  Dry lubes only 2 cars per entrant
  •  There is a $1 per car entrance fee.

Feature Stock

This class is for cars that have not been modified for speed. They are as they were when they were taken out of the package. However, dry lubes like graphite are allowed as it can be difficult to tell at times if it has been applied. So to ensure that everyone is on an equal playing field, graphite is allowed so that we don’t have to worry about it.
Each racing month there will be a different theme for the stock race.  See race schedule for feature stock race themes and a link to the race's official page

Official Rules

  • Cars must be stock - no modifications for speed other than dry lubes .
  • Dry lubes are allowed.
  • Cars may be any brand 1/64 scale.
  • Cars must be 3.75 inches or less in length.
  • 2 cars per entrant
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee.

Builder's Challenge Race

Each month we usually have a race with a special theme or special rules. This race will change each month. Sometimes it will be on a different track. Sometimes it will be open to modified cars, sometimes only stock cars. The goal of the feature race is to have an opportunity for racers to do something a bit different if they want and keep the racing challenging, interesting and fun.

Official Rules
  • Depends on the race. See race schedule for feature races and a link to the race's official page.
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee.
