Rules and Race Classes

Here are the different race classes we have each month.  For information on how to race and where to send cars CLICK HERE.

Open Modified

This class is for cars that have been modified for speed. Usually some weight has been added and axles have been polished or changed. If you are new to racing but would like to start modifying cars, check out our speed tips.
This class is part of a point scoring championship series.

Official Rules

  • Cars must be 57 grams or under.
  • Cars may be modified for speed, looks, or both.
  • Length: must be 3.75 inches or less
  • Height: must be 2 inches or less
  • Width: must fit on Hot Wheels orange track
  • Dry lubes only
  • 2 cars per entrant
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee unless you are an official member of the Diecast 64 ClubMembers of the Diecast 64 Club race for free.

Open Stock

This class is for cars that have not been modified for speed. They are as they were when they were taken out of the package. However, dry lubes like graphite are allowed as it can be difficult to tell at times if it has been applied. So to ensure that everyone is on an equal playing field, graphite is allowed so that we don’t have to worry about it.
This class is part of a point scoring championship series.

Official Rules

  • Cars must be stock - no modifications for speed other than dry lubes
  • Dry lubes are allowed
  • Cars may be any brand 1/64 scale
  • 2 cars per entrant
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee unless you are an official member of the Diecast 64 ClubMembers of the Diecast 64 Club race for free.

Hot Off the Shelf

This is a rip’n’race, meaning that cars must be sent in unopened still in the package. This race is fun because anybody has chance to win, including those without much racing experience. The idea of this race is to be racing Hot Wheels cars that you can go out and buy right now. We include the current year plus the previous year and the next year, because quite often, depending on when it is during the year you may see the current year, the previous year, and even next year’s cars (if it is towards the end of the year) on the shelf. This is a winner take all race, meaning that whoever wins this race gets all the cars entered.

This class is not part of a point scoring championship series.

Official Rules

  • New in the package Hot Wheels from this year, last year, and next year - 2016, 2017, and 2018
  • Cars can be mainline cars or any of the special series cars, ie color shifters, character cars, pop culture cars, etc. Just as long as it says Hot Wheels.
  • Winner take all race - meaning whoever wins gets all the cars in this race.
  • 2 cars per entrant
  • There is a $1 per car entrance fee unless you are an official member of the Diecast 64 ClubMembers of the Diecast 64 Club race for free.

Feature Race

Each month we usually have a race with a special theme or special rules. Sometimes it will be on a different track. This race will change each month. Sometimes it will be open to modified cars, sometimes only stock cars, sometimes a rip’n’race. The goal of the feature race is to have an opportunity for racers to do something a bit different if they want and keep the racing challenging, interesting and fun.
This class is part of a point scoring championship series.

Official Rules

  • Depends on the race. See race schedule for feature races and a link to the race's official page.
